Nefarious Republican conspiracy at the heart of the State Department

Normally I wait until my "Around the world in X blogs" round-up every Sunday to link to interesting writings my fellow bloggers have recently posted, or to give a plug for a new kid on the blog. This time I'm going to make an exception and recommend to you a blog called The Diplomad, which has been started only last month. As its creators write, "A Blog by career US Foreign Service officers. They are Republican (most of the time) in an institution (State Department) in which being a Republican can be bad for your career -- even with a Republican President! Join the State Department Republican Underground."

The Diplomad has got a promise to become a great - and a rare - window on the internal workings of the US State Department, and I hope we'll read in the future a lot more about the weird and wonderful world of the Foggy Bottom from the inside. As the old British joke goes, the UK Foreign Office is so called because it looks after the interests of foreigners.

In the meantime, check out this parody of the 911 Commission Report:
"Flash! NY Times Discovers Germans Did Not Attack Pearl Harbor (A Parody)
New York Times headline September 4, 1946:

"DECEMBER 7 COMMISSION FINDS NO HITLER INVOLVEMENT IN PEARL HARBOR ATTACK; 'NO COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIP FOUND'; MAJOR FDR/TRUMAN REASON FOR WAR WITH AXIS UNDERMINED

"September 4, 1946, Washington, DC -- New York Times reporters got an exclusive look at the still-classified report of the Commission looking into the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, an attack President Truman and his late predecessor Franklin D. Roosevelt insisted was carried out by forces under the control of the Japanese Government. The attack was used to justify war not only against Japan but against Germany and Italy, as well. It also served as justification for the creation of secret military tribunals to try so-called German "spies and saboteurs" and to imprison large numbers of Asian-Americans."
Good luck behind the enemy lines, dear Diplomads.
