Reuters might by now have a pretty strong reputation for refusing to use the "T" word when writing about terrorists, but this latest effort in giving benefit of the doubt takes the agency to an all-new level:
A suspected suicide bomber died on Tuesday in the western Afghan city of Herat while attempting to assassinate a local police chief, police said.I guess it's only right and proper not to prejudge guilt in this case (particularly when the explodee will now never get a chance for fair trial) - after all, it could have been an entirely innocent case of Spontaneous Human Explosion.
The unidentified man died in an explosion as he tried to approach the car of Khawja Isa, the police chief of Enjil district of Herat province near the border with Iran, Nisar Ahmad Paikar, a police official in the city of Herat, told Reuters.
"His body is beyond recognition and he was a suicide bomber wanting to kill Isa," he said. Isa was unhurt.
